PA Mass Murder

On December 15, 2014, 35-year-old Bradley Stone embarked on a killing spree in Montgomery county, PA.  Armed with a gun, knife and ax, Mr. Stone murdered six people before overdosing on his psychotropic medications.

A beneficiary of Veterans Court, of the sort advocated by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) in his Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act (HR 2646), Mr. Stone was deferred from jail, and allowed to remain in the community on medication.

The Medical Examiner determined that Mr. Stone’s cause of death was multi-drug toxicity.  Toxicology results indicated he overdosed on Trazodone and Risperdal (risperidone).

The FDA-approved label on Trazodone warns patients to call their healthcare provider or 911 if “acting on dangerous impulses” or “acting aggressive or violent.”
